Dental Veneers Kyle A veneer is a partial coverage restoration i.e. part of a tooth is covered. Teeth are veneered essentially for aesthetic reasons so that the veneer covers the visible surface of the tooth. The tooth is usually modelled to resemble the shape of the undamaged tooth/original tooth or how the patient would like the tooth to look.
Why would veneers benefit me? Cosmetic veneers are usually placed for the following reasons; to change colour, change rotation, change size, change shape, correct crooked teeth, change inclination and mask imperfections in teeth. Veneers can be placed to correct mild imperfections unlike crowns which are far more versatile. However, veneers are less destructive to teeth compared with crowns and are therefore indicated over crowns wherever possible.
Veneers are an extremely popular treatment which can give a natural looking result, to brighten your smile and your self-esteem. It is a relatively non-invasive treatment option that is simple yet effective.
Dentures for missing teeth
A denture is an appliance which is worn to replace lost or missing teeth. A full denture replaces all of the natural teeth in either jaw. Like dental implants and bridges, a partial denture is used to fill the spaces created by lost or missing teeth. Dentures also provide structure to your smile so that you do not get a sunken appearance which can develop when teeth are missing.
In denture work we focus on function, comfort and creating a natural look to help you enjoy life without worry or embarrassment. Movement from poor fitting dentures can irritate the gums, cause soreness, slurred speech and clicking noises. Our laboratory technicians often work beside the dentist to help achieve the patients’ exact specification and requirements.
A dental crown is akin to a cover/cap placed over a damaged or unsightly tooth to help restore tooth structure and/or improve aesthetics. Crowns are a very common dental treatment which can be split into three main categories;
1. Porcelain Crown. Porcelain is tooth colored giving this type of crown excellent aesthetics. It is often impossible to tell the difference between a natural and porcelain crowned tooth.
2. Porcelain Fused to Metal Crown. The metal part of the crown is usually gold or palladium alloy. An opaque layer constitutes the crown and therefore the metal is not visible and aesthetics are pleasing.
3. Gold Crown. Many patients request a gold crown because they wish to place physical emphasis on the tooth. From a clinical perspective, gold may be indicated because it is very strong in thin cross section i.e. a very thin crown can be very durable and strong. This enables minimal tooth reduction in the teeth preparation stage and is therefore a very conservative option.
